Your Abu Dhabi - Amir El Sherif

Amir El Sherif is 28 years old and has lived in Abu Dhabi for most of his life. He grew up here, left for university and then came back to work in 2005. He is a mechanical engineer during the day and a music producer/DJ at night – his DJ name is Soulfisher. Abu Dhabi Week asked Amir what are the five things he likes most about living in Abu Dhabi.

Diversity

Abu Dhabi has a very diverse population. People come to live here from different countries, backgrounds and cultures – which all makes Abu Dhabi a very interesting place to live. I’ve travelled a lot, to lots of places around the world, and I can say that only a few places have that. I find it exciting, and it really brings a lot to the social scene.

Speed of Change

This city has been growing so fast, especially over the last decade or so. The new developments are being built at a rate unlike anywhere else in the world, and they have opened even more opportunities for people to come and live here. And not just that! New attractions have led to a major growth in tourism. With all the new islands near completion even more hotels, parks, museums and attractions will come on board soon.

Nightlife

There is a wide variety of restaurants, cafés, lounges, bars and nightclubs to chose from – whether you want to go out midweek or on the weekend. I am privileged to be a resident DJ at audio tonic, every Thursday night at one of my favourite outdoor venues in Abu Dhabi – Pearls bar at Pearls and Caviar in the Shangri-La hotel.

Activities

Thanks to the warm weather almost all year round, people here just love water sports. From jet skiing, scuba diving, fishing and boat trips or just going for a swim. Tanning on the beach with a cold drink is also great! Beach and boat parties have become popular at weekends as well. Desert safaris and camping are other major attractions in the region.

Shopping

If you love shopping this is the place to be! It is an all-time favourite activity for residents and tourists here. The country is in a prime location in the region, it’s so accessible. You can find any brand you might think of here, for any consumer product from fashion to electronics and cars. That’s a pretty nice thing to have!
