Your Abu Dhabi - Fares Farah

Fares is 28 years old and has lived in Abu Dhabi for five years. He moved to Abu Dhabi from France via Lebanon, and works in the jewellery business at La Portique Jewellery on Khalifa Street. Abu Dhabi Week asked Fares what are the five things he likes best about Abu Dhabi.

The British Club
Somewhere I like a lot and go often, almost every day, is the British Club. It is kind of private, it’s a bit hard to get access to, but once you’re in and you have membership it’s great. There’s a beach, restaurants, a gym – it’s like a small village.

Central Market
The new Central Market, which has just opened up, is great. It’s near my shop and you can get really nice shisha on the rooftop. Chapter’s is good, the food is OK but the shisha is great. There are a couple of Arabic restaurants and a really good Indian restaurant on the ground floor that you should try.

Sir Bani Yas
One place I’ve heard a lot of people talking about and where I’m going next weekend is Bani Yas Island Resort. I’m looking forward to it, they say it’s a must in Abu Dhabi. They have a resort hotel and you can go on safari or just enjoy the beach. I want to see the animals, the white oryx there – they say they’re pretty unique.

Sheikh Zayed Mosque
I think most people are impressed by the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It’s amazing. Really, really amazing. They’re still not done with the mosque and it’s been going on for more than ten years. The carpets, all the details inside and knowing that Sheikh Zayed has been buried there is impressive – it’s very, very special. And it’s so huge! You’ll never see something like it elsewhere.

Souk Qaryat Al Beri
I think the best place to go to visit is the Souk Qaryat Al Beri with the Shangri-La and Fairmont Hotels. There are all the restaurants, a huge variety from Chinese to Arabic to Indian to American – you can just go and have a walk. And it’s so peaceful. You see a lot of tourists, but I think even with so many people it’s peaceful because it’s so big and there are so many sections – you’re never too crowded.

Have your say
