Your Abu Dhabi - Sahil Choudhary

Sahil is 27 years old and has lived in Abu Dhabi for two and a half years. He moved to Abu Dhabi from London, England and works for the British Embassy. Abu Dhabi Week asked Sahil what are the five things he likes best about Abu Dhabi.

The Mosque
Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the most beautiful and peaceful place. I never need an excuse to visit, day or night. I remember when I first moved here, they hadn’t completed some parts of it, so to see the progression over the last couple of years has been great. It’s also one of the first places I take family and friends to when they visit. I love seeing them enjoy it as much as I do.

The Corniche
It makes me feel like I’m on holiday every time I visit! I love the way it has been redesigned, with the new cafés and restaurants. For the number of people who use the Corniche, it’s very clean and well maintained – but I guess that’s like most of Abu Dhabi really. Any time of the year is good for a swim … you can’t say that about many places!

The food
You can get every type of cuisine here – from Japanese to Italian – and there are new restaurants opening all the time. Also, not having to worry about whether or not the food is halal is great for me – because it means I can eat anywhere! A very nice touch is the delivery service offered by most places, for those lazy days.

The security
The low crime and honesty in Abu Dhabi is amazing. I left my phone in a busy shop one weekend, and by the time I realised it was an hour later and I thought there was no way it would still be there. But when I returned to the shop, it was in exactly the same place that I had left it! Considering how the city has rapidly expanded over the years, I was shocked to say the least. This must be one of the safest cities in the world!

The opportunities
Living in Abu Dhabi opens up so many opportunities for different things. I’m lucky to have the opportunity to have many friends from all over the world – which I do. Even though I come from London, which is very multi-cultural, you seem to meet people from absolutely everywhere in Abu Dhabi … it’s great to experience different cultures.

Have your say
