Jenny is 23 years old and has lived in Abu Dhabi for nine months. She moved to Abu Dhabi from Edinburgh, Scotland, and is working for an international bank as PA to the CEO. Abu Dhabi Week asked Jenny what are the five things she likes best about Abu Dhabi.
Abu Dhabi Week
That has to be the first thing. My favourite section is Waif of the Week because I’m a sucker for animals, I love seeing the cute little pictures. It’s always nice to see that some people are trying to help animals.
The charities
There are some really good causes to get involved with in Abu Dhabi. Two that I’m involved with personally are Strays of Abu Dhabi and the Special Care Centre. What is so great is that a lot of them are just getting started, so you can still get involved in on the ground level – really roll up your sleeves and get stuck in. With charities that are a lot more established you can donate money but not really get involved; I like that I personally can make a difference.
The restaurants
There are so many restaurants to choose from in Abu Dhabi and at the weekends I like trying new places – although I do have a few favourites already. I’ve tried new styles of food since I’ve been here too and I’ve tried more Lebanese food than I ever had before; there’s just so much choice.
The events
People always think of going to Dubai for things to do, but I think Abu Dhabi has got great choices at the moment. I’ve seen so many different acts recently and I’ve got plans to see so many more in the next few months, all really different styles of music. Also there are loads of exhibitions which are really interesting to go and see.
The palm trees
I really like the palm trees! You can be sitting in an office or driving along in a cab and you look outside and see the palm trees, it’s a reminder that you’re in a completely different place! For me, it’s a very different place from where I grew up, so it’s really nice to see and it reminds me that I’m in an exciting, foreign environment and that I must try and remember to take advantage of being here.
