Five best business lunches

There isn’t much of a tradition of the Europeanstyle business lunch in Abu Dhabi, but this is often a good way to cement relationships (and maybe even to do some work).

1.                  Ushna is the classy contemporary-Indian eatery that opened earlier this year in the Souk, Qaryat al Beri (next to the Shangri-La). It’s just started doing a thali business lunch – a thali is a selection of classic dishes, lots of them, served in individual bowls; there are vegetarian (AED 65) and non vegetarian (AED 85) options available.

2.                  The Al Fanar restaurant at Le Royal Meridien has to be one of the best places in Abu Dhabi to see the city – it’s high, it’s circular, and it rotates (reputedly much faster at lunchtime than at dinner, so in 45 minutes you get the 360o view that in the evening takes twice as long). Two course for AED 90, three for AED 120.

3.                  The good thing about One to One’s business lunch isn’t the price, though AED 79 for two courses and AED 99 for three is not bad – especially for the standard of cooking. The real plus is the way you get to choose from four different restaurants –steaks at18oz, Thai at Wokcano, Lebanese at Sahriye, everything else at Resto.

4.                  BiCE at the Hilton Abu Dhabi is one of our favourite Italian eateries – and one of the best in town. Somehow Italian food seems especially conducive to doing business, or at least to networking. Nice views over the Corniche, too.

5.                  It’s not a business lunch deal per se, but Shang Palace at the Shangri-La has an earlybird offer for Yam Cha at AED 98 for anyone who comes in between 11.30am and 12.30pm. Yam Cha is what the rest of us call dim sum, so you get a procession of tasty mini-dishes.
