1. Mobile phones:
On 11th, between 4th and 6th streets, you’ll find a long row of shops carrying all sorts of mobile phones and accessories. The prices are generally in line with those in the shopping malls, and if there’s something special you need, you might be able to find it walking from shop to shop.
2. Automotive, A/C, window tinting:
Along 9th, between 6th and 8th streets is a whole city block of shops that handle minor automotive mishaps, though they’re best known for being the place to get your A/C Freon topped up or your windows tinted for a great price. They may try to rip you off from time to time, but they’ve also been known to quite accurately identify leaks and other problems.
3.Fabric:
Tucked away in the city block behind Al Mariah Centre at the corner of 4th/Muroor Road and 5th/Hamdan Street you’ll find a whole heap of fabric shops. Though the gold standard in fabric is Cairo on 3rd/Khalifa Street opposite Al Noor Hospital, you can find everything else in one of these little shops.
4.Hardware and handymen:
If you need anything in the way of hardware, 6th street between 7th and 9th is the place to go. Every conceivable piece of hardware known to man is tucked away in these shops, and if they don’t have it on hand, they can probably direct you to a cousin or colleague in Musaffah who does. Need someone to install your stuff? Hoards of handymen are lurking around these shops, ready in a moment to grab their tools and come out to get your house in order.
5.Ball gowns:
Ball season is just around the corner, so if you’re looking for something long and lovely, check out the shops along 3rd between 6th and 8th. Though a lot of these gowns are OTT to the extreme, most are stunning. If you look, you can even find top/skirt separates to mix and match.
