Five Bargains

You’ve seen a few before in this column, but here five more excellent bargains to be had around the capital.

1. The Cultural Foundation on 7th/Zayed the First Street: There’s often something happening there, and it’s often free. Example: back in November, the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage hosted several cool kids’ movies in 3D at the Al Dhafrah cinema there. Keep an eye on.

2. 100 Tea Light Candles for AED 11 at Ikea: Seriously. At 11 fils per candle, how is that even possible?

3. Steaks at 49ers in Al Dana Hotel, opposite Le Meridien: Though lacking the ambiance and classy presentation and service of some other Abu Dhabi grill places, this western themed steak house/bar serves superb cuts of beef you can choose before cooking. Just go early as the clientele gets a little colourful after 9pm.

4. Camel Races at Al Wathba Track on Highway E22: Whether you’re going to watch or participate, these fun and funky races are free for both spectators and participants. You’ll have to sit on the grassy slope and you’ll want to bring your own binoculars, but it’s a great way to spend a weekend morning. More information in Vol. 2 Issue 38 and on the website at tinyurl.com/yawyncz

5.The Abu Dhabi Entertainer Coupon Book: For the relatively small price of AED 195, this weighty book is full of two-for-one vouchers for everything from a main course at Bord Eau to introductory classes at Yoga Tree. One plush meal at Shangri La and the book has paid for itself. (Ed – What a good idea. Maybe we should do something similar ourselves?)
