Reasons to love living in Abu Dhabi

1. Litter
There isn’t any – anywhere: And we can’t remember the last time we spotted graffiti, for that matter (apart from some low-grade tagging in the underpasses at the end of Hamdan Street). Of course, there’s no excuse for not putting your rubbish in the bin where it belongs, but it’s a pleasure to see the army of street cleaners to cope with the people who don’t seem able to cope with a bin. And oh how we don’t miss finding chewing gum stuck to our soles.

2. Greenery
Abu Dhabi is evergreen: parks, grassy roundabouts and flower lined pavements – even the central motorway reservations are planted (that’s how you know when you cross the border into Dubai – just watch the palm trees disappear from the sides of the road ...)

3. The Plan
Abu Dhabi has a really good plan and is sticking to it: Plan 2030 is a thorough and thoughtful blueprint for the future of the capital. From designated high rise areas (the city is happily lacking in an overwhelming sprawl of skyscrapers) to environment protection and projected rail system, the long-term goals are impressively documented, well constructed and already being well carried out.

4. Friends
There’s no reason to feel lonely in Abu Dhabi with an exhaustive variety of social groups across the city – from Latin ladies groups, mother-orientated get-togethers, business networking opportunities, coffee morning and more. There’s something for everyone – and it’s a great way to make new friends. (And if you haven’t had any luck, drop Abu Dhabi Week a line and we’ll see if we can suggest a group you could contact).

5. The future
It’s bright. Last year saw the start of a strong series of innovative projects and exciting events, and there’s plenty in the pipeline. The Guggenheim and the Louvre are the obvious candidates, but there’s more motorsports action on Yas, more golf courses, more stunning buildings reaching completion, the media zone around Two Four 54 ... the list goes on, and will include equally impressive changes at Abu Dhabi Week as we develop with the city. We can’t wait to see it all happen!
