Five best places to have a kids’ party

The kids’ party scene in Abu Dhabi seems to be spiralling out of control. With some parties involving stables of ponies and entire beaches full of uniformed serving staff, it’s hard for the average parent to keep up. But here are five great spots for a fun party that won’t break the bank.

1. Sheikh Khalifa Bowling Center: Part of Zayed Sports City towards the mainland end of Airport Road, this world-class bowling centre is surprisingly unpretentious. You can book a lane for just AED 80 an hour – and with 40 lanes on offer, you can invite a lot of kids. The on-site snack bar sells all the standard fare plus tea, coffee, and Paninis for the adults.

2. The Corniche Park: Perhaps the cheapest option in town, there are heaps of covered picnic tables all along the Corniche opposite the women-and-families beach. Entertain party guests with the excellent playground facilities and bring as much or as little food as you want. You’ll want to get there early to mark your territory, though.

3. Tips and Toes: Both locations (in Marina Mall and on 30th/Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street) offer Little Princess parties. Girls can get their fingers and toes groomed to perfection and feel pampered at the same time. Mummies welcome!

4. Abu Dhabi Ice Rink: Also housed at Zayed Sport City, this enormous rink is a fun spot for a party. Even the smallest kids can give it a go with tiny skates and aluminium skating frames that will keep little ones on their feet. The café can provide the food, too, making it easy for you.

5. Abu Dhabi Pottery in Khalidiya: Who needs a lame party bag when you can send guests home with their very own work of art? Though they won’t have cake and eats, kids will love getting their hands dirty and letting their creative energy flow. For obvious reasons, the party size is limited to eight children.
