So what’s the deal?
Offering a full range of salon services, including haircuts, highlights, waxing and nails, Glamour is home to Canadian-born stylist Meuge. Fresh to Abu Dhabi after ten years in Scotland and a year in Dubai, Meuge is comfortable with the sort of style superstars that grace the walls of the salon like Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Why? Meuge spent many years at Vidal Sassoon working on stars in attendance at the Vancouver Film Festival, like Julia Roberts.
After a brief but productive consultation, we underwent a double wash and conditioning session with our hair wrapped in plastic and nourished under the heater. Then it was time for Meuge to work her magic – she kept her promise to take off ‘just a bit’ around the front, and she was the first stylist we’ve encountered in the capital to ask us to uncross our legs to ensure an absolutely symmetrical cut.
Why go?
Abu Dhabi is full of egotistical stylists who are sure they know what you want better than you do, so we loved sitting down and discussing what we wanted with someone who was willing to listen. Our cut from Glamour was so good, in fact, that this bona fide hair snob was actually compelled to call the next day and rave.
And why not?
Be sure to bring your dirhams because, while the location is easy to find and parking is now a breeze thanks to Mawaqif, you've got to have coins to pay for the Mawaqif. And while you may appreciate the privacy, the door doesn’t open from the outside or feature any windows – just knock to let them know you’ve arrived.
