I scream for ice cream!

So what's the deal?

To help beat the heat, we decided to put on our aprons and have a whirl at making some homemade ice cream. The Gaggia Gelatiera ice cream machine is actually quite simple to use, with two main settings (one for freezing and the other for mixing) and an attached timer to let you know when your ice cream is done.

Once we decided on our flavour (vanilla), we simply had to switch the machine on and let it pre-cool for five minutes. We used this time to mix the ingredients together and once we could see tiny ice crystals forming on the detachable metal bowl, we knew we could pour the mixture in. Make sure you turn on the blade to get the ice cream to start mixing, set the timer (to the very end) and let it go.

The machine is a bit loud when mixing the ice cream but we just left the kitchen to do other things until it was done. Ice cream typically takes 30 minutes to form, however if it is a bit on the watery side you can reset the timer until the desired consistency is achieved. If your ice cream features mix-ins such as chocolate chips, toffee pieces or fruit. make sure to add those in once the ice cream has almost come together.

We would suggest you place your ice cream in the freezer to set even more until you're ready to serve. It solved our problem of the ice cream melting too quickly once freshly served and let the flavours settle together. The ice cream was surprisingly creamy and impressed our guests when we let them know it was homemade.

Why buy?

The user manual also includes a recipe book filled with flavours to tempt you with. If you are watching your weight or don't fancy having ice cream there are also recipes for long drinks, frozen yogurt, and sorbets.

And why not?

The machine is a bit pricey but if you're a die hard homemade ice cream fan, we can't see why you wouldn't want this. It's incredibly easy to use and the detachable bowl made clean up a breeze. Plus being able to pronounce what exactly it is your ingesting can never be a bad thing!
