Charities for kids

After a huge response, the Park Inn and Radisson Blu Box Appeal has been extended to 30th September. Are your little ones wondering how they can help a worthy cause? Check out these charities that even small children can help support.

Strays of Abu Dhabi: While adult volunteers do everything from rescuing animals in the field to fostering and training cats and dogs so that they can be adopted, SAD is always looking for leftover newspapers to use for lining animal kennels. Kids can save their parents’ newspapers or organise a newspaper drop-off corner in their classroom and then have someone take the papers to the American Veterinary Clinic with your donations on a regular basis. www.straysofabudhabi.com

The Special Care Centre: Older kids can volunteer their time by helping out at The Special Care Centre working with students who have special learning or physical needs. Ask about regular visits or helping with occasional outings. This work won’t be suited to everyone, so talk to staff and make arrangements well in advance of any visit. www.donateabrick.org

The Red Crescent Society: Though the Red Crescent Society conducts special drives during Ramadan and at other times of the year, they take donations of clothes, books and other household items all the time. Really keen? Look into volunteering with The Student Crescent, a subsection of the RCS Volunteer department geared towards students of all academic levels in both government and private school. www.rcuae.ae
