Surprisingly refreshing

When we heard that Jazz Bar & Dining at the Hilton Abu Dhabi had a new band performing, we couldn’t wait to get our groove on, and six-piece band Liquid certainly had us bouncing up and out of our seats.

The band members, from the UK, US, Canada and Portugal, put on one of the liveliest shows we’ve seen for a while. Not stopping at providing the audience with some great music, the band performs every song with so much gusto that they could easily get a whole arena of people dancing.

Clad in hot pants, with hair big enough to make headlines, the two female lead vocalists (Lisa and Marie-Denis) have got their moves down for each song – whether it’s African body flexing to accompany Shakira’s Waka Waka or catwalk poses for Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance (complete with shades).

Their leading man, Eric Carlos, meanwhile combines chiseled boy band features with the snake hips of Justin Timberlake to keep the ladies in the audience happy. We’re serious - we had more than one swooner at our table!

This band is not all about show tactics though. With its instrumentalists belting out some great music and all three singers hitting the right notes, Liquid is tight and tremendously entertaining.

Band members – Robert (drummer), Blue Rooney (bassist) and Michael Muellerleile (guitarist) – have played with the likes of Patti Labelle, Lola Falana, the Neville Brothers, the Phenix Horns from Earth Wind and Fire and Deborah Cox, to name a few, and it shows.

Whether you’re into country, blues, classic rock, funk, RnB, reggae, pop or jazz, Liquid has something up its collective sleeve to keep your toes tapping.
