Power Up!

VILLA 5 at the OnetoOne Hotel hosts a power yoga class meant to get your mind, body and soul in sync. The Vinyasa flow technique, meaning “breath-synchronised movement”, focuses on changing positions on each inhale or exhale. Focusing on our breathing helped settle our nerves (since we hadn't exercised in ages), and actually helped propel us into the next position.

The studio is not very large, only around ten people can fit comfortably, but with such a small class we were able to receive personal attention to help configure our bodies.

The yoga's fast pace makes for a tricky bit of manoeuvering as we try to keep up. If you're not familiar with some basic positions it can be a bit overwhelming at first. However, there is no real reason to worry as our very capable instructor, Sasha Quince, is able to guide even the most inflexible students along the entire way.

Sasha is a relatively new yoga instructor, but it certainly doesn't feel that way. She is friendly and more than willing to help. For yoga newbies, some positions can sometimes seem daunting, if not outrightly impossible, but with a little tweaking here and there we manage to look the part. Sasha also provides options in terms of moves to help facilitate beginners and advanced learners alike.

Why go?

The music itself was calming enough, but the meditation portion at the end of each class is what would make us come back again. Sasha helped guided us through a meditation break and then came over and dabbed our ears and neck with lavender essential oil.

The calming smell of lavender was just what we needed to feel like we were actually pampering ourselves while out at the gym!

And why not?

The studio provides all of the equipment needed, you just need to wear light, comfortable clothing you can move in. We'd suggest you bring a bottle of water along for afterwards to help keep you feeling refreshed and hydrated. If you'd rather not get your chakras sorted publicly, Sasha also hosts private sessions.
