Amerigos - Park Inn Yas Island

More than meat

morethan01

As true lovers of all things Mexican and food packing a punch we will never say no to a visit to Amerigo’s at Park Inn Yas Island.

With fantastic fruity libations and mounds of cheese and chili-covered nachos on offer this Central American eatery always draws an enthusiastic yet relaxed crowd. We’ve come to expect a lot more from the menu than a plate of nachos though, as chef Oscar Selfa has added an authentic Spanish twist to a host of traditional Mexican dishes.

We adore his open-faced prawn quesadilla and would happily wash the dishes for a bowl of his spicy tomato and red pepper soup.

That’s not why were there again last month though – oh no – it was a Wednesday so it must have been Steak Night!

Sit in the main restaurant if you like more of a buzz, but opt for the lounge or the outside terrace if you want a more relaxed ambience.

Snuggled next to one of the heaters outside our waiter brought out an enormous board with all the usual suspects listed – tenderloin, rib eye, sirloin – with a few slightly stranger options such as rump flap to tempt.

We opted for a big, juicy tenderloin, medium rare and a virtuous side salad. Arriving on a slate slab our meat was still sizzling away.

At first we were worried that this would overcook our meat, but we were pleased to discover that chef Selfa had allowed for this and by the time we reached the centre of our tenderloin it was still reassuringly moist and pink.

An interesting choice of three sauces comes alongside the steak – one tangy, one creamy and the other more of a salsa. This is a nice touch and makes a change from the usual mustard selection.

Make sure you leave space for dessert though as you can’t leave without trying the Mexican bread pudding with freshly made vanilla ice cream. Sinful, but then again we did have the salad!

Why do we have limited options for vegetarians. I turned vege couple of years ago and have realised that I struggle to spend my money in AD as very few places offer me options without meat. I hope this changes in due course in AD.
Have your say
