Applebee’s, Mushrif Mall

Appetite for Applebee’s

appetitefor

We’ve always been fans of food, as our expanding waistline proves, so we were excited to check out a little taste of home when visiting the very new Applebee’s in Mushrif Mall.

Arriving on a relatively quiet weekday, we find the restaurant unusually busy. Speaking to the lovely manager we discover that come the weekend, there’s usually a queue building up outside, with people happy to wait over an hour to be seated.

Eager to see what all the fuss is about, we studied the diverse menu to settle on the Ultimate Trio and, for our main course, opted for the hand battered fish and chips.

With an enormous goblet of red apple sangria, a delicious mocktail flavoured with apple, pineapple, cranberry and grenadine next to us, out came our steaming trio of delightful samplers for us to devour. The Ultimate Trio features a list of options to choose from to make your sampler personalised to your tastes. We opted for wonton tacos filled with shredded beef and Asian slaw, mozzarella sticks and boneless buffalo wings.

The wonton tacos were delightfully crispy and the sweet slaw on top provided the perfect accompaniment to the pile of beef nestled into the fried shell. The Ultimate Trio does provide a lot of offers and we’d suggest you share these with a friend, otherwise you may just be too stuffed to continue on with a main.

Service here is fast, efficient and friendly. After clearing away our appetisers, we were told our mains would be served in exactly seven minutes time. And lo and behold, seven minutes later we had the most deliciously golden brown fillets of fish in front of us. The fish was crispy, flavourful and actually did transport us to the streets of our local fish and chip shop back home.

The servings here are generous, and when we say generous, we mean we had to pack up more than half for lunch the next day kind of generous. We absolutely loved the thinly cut fries that accompanied our meal and, in an effort to stem our guilt at such indulgence, gobbled up our steamed veg pretty quick.

Worth the wait? Absolutely.
