Jimmy’s Killer Prawns

Piles and piles of prawns

pilesandpiles

If you haven’t yet been to the recently opened Mushrif Mall on 2nd/Airport Road, you really should check it out. With plenty of excellent options on offer already and more to come, Mushrif is fast filling the restaurant gap midtown. Eager to see what’s on offer, we went along to South African chain Jimmy’s Killer Prawns – a comfortable sit-down restaurant and not what we were expecting, considering its whimsical name.

We started with colourful mocktails including the Jimmy-tini, the Breezer and a bubbly strawberry concoction, all of which were fruity and refreshing – unlike the hearty starters which were mainly cheesy, creamy and purely decadent.

The fried halloumi fingers were dense and crispy, the prawn cocktail served with a delicious tangy sauce and the black mushrooms lush and flavourful. Of the gratineed prawns, we have nothing to say but yum yum yum!

Jimmy’s is a perfect spot for nibbling, with a wide array of salads and homemade daily soup. We loved the sampler of sushi made in-house, especially the spicy fried sushi - rolled with a sauce so secret we couldn’t get our server Fatima to name a single ingredient.

If you’ve got plenty of people to feed, you’ll want to look into the platters on offer. We loved everything on the Millionaire’s Combo, from the flavourful lobster thermador and lightly fried calamari to the mussels, linefish and array of prawns. In fact, we tried prawns spiced three different ways and loved them all, especially the Kashmiri. Though entirely superfluous, the chips were also excellent.

Stuffed to the gills, we were determined to give the dessert menu a miss – until we saw the ice cream with Mars bar sauce.

Seriously, need we say more?

I visited the restaurant this afternoon and decided to give it a go ! The cream seafood soup was Devine !! The millionaire platter was average for 330 dhs the tiger prawns were tough and chewy the smaller ones were tender and nice, the lobster was presentable and sauce was flavoursome but not fresh , the fish
was from Vietnam as the manager told us
and not as advertised , the calamari were also chewy !!! I would deff try other dishes but I would rather go to shangrila hotel an have the sofra buffet knowing my seafood was fresh !! And for the value of money
Have your say
