Amerigos Mexican Bar and Restaurant

Real Mexican flavours

When Abu Dhabi Week first visited Amerigos at Park Inn, the Mexican restaurant was lacking atmosphere, but with the promise of a new menu, we headed back to see if it had managed to pull in the crowds.

Amerigos is keen to stress that it doesn’t serve Tex-Mex. Sure, there are the usual suspects on the menu: enchiladas, quesadillas and fajitas, but there’s also a few new surprises to sample.

If you want to venture further than your classic guacamole, why not try the Vuelve a la Vida, a deliciously spicy blend of seafood mixed together with a lightly spiced salad.

Another favourite was the Tamiquena Butterfly Grilled Beef with roasted spring onion. The impossibly tender meat is as easy to eat as it is to carve and is so beautifully presented it’s almost a crime to pull apart.

The servings are certainly not mean at Amerigos so make sure you leave some room for dessert.

We found the mojito sorbet was the perfect way to cleanse the palette and end the meal. Those looking for something a little bit naughtier though should opt for the torrijas, a wonderful deep-fried bread pudding, which is served with a healthy dollop of vanilla ice cream.

Overall, the atmosphere at Amerigos is now much livelier. The new menu seems to have attracted a loyal following, which we’re sure is probably largely due to the friendly and attentive staff.
