Hawksbill Restaurant

Golf club gastronomy

golfclub01

Traditionally, the 19th hole refers to a golf clubhouse bar. However, the Hawksbill Restaurant at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club is really pushing the limits of usual golf club grub and provides a much more sophisticated take on the obligatory post-game venue.

It’s still quite early when we arrive and rather humid outside, so we opt to remain indoors despite the allure of the attractive outdoor terrace. Inside, dark wood-panelled walls, tables and comfy chocolate brown chairs contrast nicely with the white ceilings, and the huge windows afford stunning views of the emerald green fairways and the glistening blue water of the gulf.

We started with cheese-stuffed jalapeno’s with a really tasty cilantro sauce as well as a lovely fresh and crispy cobb salad, followed by a succulent tenderloin steak, cooked to perfection, accompanied by some beautiful baby spinach and split beans. We also try the chicken quesadillas; superbly filling but a little on the salty side for our taste.

The portions are very generous and we’re feeling pleasantly stuffed but it would be rude to leave without at least sampling the desserts – and we’re glad we do. The chocolate fondant is delicious, releasing wonderfully gooey chocolatey goodness when broken with our spoon; definitely the highlight of the meal. The vanilla bean ice cream is equally good, drizzled with a shot of freshly brewed espresso coffee.

By the time we’ve finished our meal the restaurant is virtually empty and when we leave the car park is deserted with not a taxi in sight – Saadiyat’s still being developed and consequently is a little quiet so it’s probably a good idea to arrange your lift home in advance.
