Selections iftar buffet - InterContinental Hotel

So many Selections.

SelectionsIftarIntercon

One of the best iftar spreads in the capital is a long standing player on the Abu Dhabi eatery scene – Selections at the InterContinental.

There’s little wonder Selections is packed, even on a weeknight. The massive feast includes all the Arabic favourites, plus plenty of continental options for variety. Salads and starters feature heavily with everything from crisp falafel and creamy hummus to less conventional sides like sliced jalapeño peppers.

You’ll find plenty of protein to see you through as well – roast beef, roast chicken, mixed grill, fish, lamb and a massive biryani. Like the pasta, the tender filling to build your own shawarma is served straight from the wok alongside oh-so-delicious garlic paste and pickles.

What sets Selections apart – in addition to the amount of quality eats – is the atmosphere. We loved the live music, a pair of singers who accompanied themselves on the oud and tabla. Strategically placed speakers give the illusion that the players are wandering through the restaurant when in fact, they’re safely tucked in an unobtrusive corner.

The serving staff at Selections is also particularly good, swiftly clearing empty plates and replenishing used silverware. The chefs in the open air kitchen are just as good at keeping every serving tray full.
With so many fantastic savoury options, you’ll be tempted to fill up before dessert, but it’s wise to try and pace yourself as there are too many excellent cakes, puddings, pastries, gorgeous fresh fruit and traditional Arabic sweets to pass by without a taste.
