Inaugural endurance race at Yas Marina Circuit a success organisers will repeat
Yas Marina Circuit’s All-Emirati team raced to victory in the GT4 category of the inaugural GULF 12 HOURS race held at Yas Marina Circuit this weekend. The team consisted of Saeed Al Mehairi, Mohammed Al Mutawa, and Thani Bin Thani. Whilst all are experienced race car drivers, this was one of the most challenging endurance races for all members of the victorious Yas team.
Saeed Al Mehairi commented, “It was a really great experience to be able to participate in such a race. It is tough to stay focused for half a day. Even though we get breaks, it is still an intense twelve hours of concentration.”
The Yas team also achieved the fastest lap time of 2:27.900 in the GT4 division.
Al Mehairi continued, “It really is a team effort and we couldn’t have done it without our dedicated team of technicians from Yas Marina Circuit. I am looking forward to hopefully defending our title at the end of the year.”
The race, hosted by Yas Marina Circuit, has been deemed successful by organisers, who are preparing to host another race later in the year.
“We have to be selective about events to make sure that they match the professionalism of the circuit, and that’s what The Gulf 12 Hours has done,” commented Richard Cregan, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit.
“The most important thing is to give people a platform where they can enter and compete at an international level in the UAE, and that’s what this event does. We are happy to continue to support it and really look forward to having the next race in December,” he continued.
