Mirror mirror on the wall, which store has the most fabulous prints of all?

It was nice to spot another kind of revolution taking place in other locations than key cities. The need for change has extended and affected global fashion designers as well. Designers went literally fruity in Prada’s case – banana prints dominated its Spring/Summer 2011 show.

You name it, they printed it -python, leopard, floral, and polka dots are some patterns spotted at other designer houses such as Givenchy, Moschino, and Dolce and Gabanna.

With the summer stepping in, it is a nice change away from nudes and neutrals.

Luckily for us, the fever stretched over to high street retailers as well, such as Zara, Top Shop and the infamous H&M.

My personal favorites are floral prints. They have a summery feel about them, and make me want to have a picnic on Irish meadows wearing my floral printed dress and my favourite pearl necklace.

How can you rock this trend without over killing it?

Mixing patterns:

Spring 2011’s patterns can be mixed together providing they belong to contrasting colors – blue and orange, green and pink – also known as the colour blocking technique. However, wearing the same size pattern on the top and bottom is a fashion no no! Match small and large prints. You also don’t want to look like a garden, so avoid mixing too many floral prints together.

Don’t go wild with animal prints:

There is a fine line between chic and cheap and you don’t want to cross it. Play safe with just animal print accessories such as shoes or a bag, or work it only as a part of an outfit. For example, wearing a python print shirt with denim.

Balance out body shape with prints:

Top heavy women wearing prints as bottoms, should take the darker shade from the print and wear it on top. Avoid busy prints if you’re a petite lady. However, if you are tall, you can easily pull off more clashes of hues.
