Wedge heels, thin heels, stiletto heels, and kitten heels! Only a few samples of the heels you will find in almost any woman's closet.

Heels are the most appealing accessory to add a pop of chic to an outfit, making the legs look more toned, longer and leaner. However, what people do not know is that heels were originally invented for men. Shocking … but very true.

Ancient Egyptians introduced them as means to keep shoes clean and new especially when walking over mud and dirt.

The first female to ever wear heels was Catherine de Medici during her wedding to the Duke of Orleans in 1533 AD. De Medici's desire to compete with the Duke's former taller wife, urged her to wear heels, unleashing a trend that has stood the test of time.

In the 20th century, heels were spotted on different runways after the Italian shoe-designer Salvatore Ferragamo introduced stiletto heels in the 1950s.

Make sure to read my interview with Latifa Al Shamsi, one of the UAE's most fashionable young ladies, who knows a thing or two about giving an Abaya an edgy look with her amazing shoe and accessory collection.
