There’s just about no better way to spend a sunny Saturday afternoon than listening to mellow jazz, sipping something cool and having a nosh while the kids run around in the grass nearby. We went along for a laid back session at Crowne Plaza Yas Island’s Stills Grills and just had to get the word out.
When we arrived at 2pm, we were surprised to find that there was hardly anyone on the patio. The temperature this time of year couldn’t be more perfect, there wasn’t a cloud in the sky and the jazz ensemble was in the middle of a funky yet unobtrusive set.
While the kids played on the lawn – hiding amongst the hedges and driving their Matchbox cars along the low walls away from the tables – we adults were able to enjoy having an actual conversation over drinks.
Ready for lunch, we dug into the modest but tasty barbeque that included salads, steaks, sausages, vegetables, pasta and a variety of desserts.
As the afternoon wore on, more people arrived but the atmosphere remained chilled out. The music was just enough to add to the experience but not so much that we had to shout to be heard – the kids especially loved seeing the performers up close and had much to say about the sax and trumpet.
While the weather is congenial, you’ll want to make the most of the beaches and parks, but when you’re ready for a little grown up relaxing, Stills Grills is just right for a lazy afternoon.
