Jennifer’s Body

Jennifer’s Body – Dir Karyn Kusama, starring Megan Fox, Amanda Seyfried, John Simmons, Adam Brody

overourOk, ok, we get it – Megan Fox is hot. But basing a whole film on her sultry performance in the hope that a queue of red-blooded men will form at the cinema and make the film a box office smash? Now that perhaps is hoping for a little too much.

Fox stars as Jennifer, popular team captain of the high-school cheerleader squad. She’s best friends with the most unlikely of candidates, the geeky and shy Needy (yes, that’s her name), and the unlikely duo do everything together.
Jennifer finds herself being ‘sacrificed’ by a satanic rock band who hope that the act will secure them a record deal. The sacrifice goes horribly wrong and Jennifer ends up possessed by a demon and hungry for blood – male blood.
As Jennifer goes on an eating spree around her school, seducing hopeful classmates before going in for the kill, Needy realises that her best friend’s new pastime is getting out of hand – and Needy’s boyfriend may also be on the menu.
This deathly attempt at a comedy-horror needs burying fast. What’s perhaps most shocking about this film is that the production team behind this try-too-hard tale actually produced the Oscar-nominated 2007 film Juno.

Fox looks nothing less than fantastic, and her acting efforts aren’t too bad either. But the story is beyond ridiculous and a blatant attempt to rinse some money out her appearances in cheerleader outfits. Unless you’re a bored, testosterone-heavy male with spare dirhams to waste on a cinema ticket, we think this is one to pass on.

Have your say
