No Strings Attached

Girls just want to have fun

nostringsattached

Director: Ivan Reitman,
Starring: Natalie Portman, Kevin Kline, Ashton Kutcher, Cary Elwes

Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher play two friends who agree to start a casual fling, thinking they can do it without any emotional baggage. Sounds easy enough – that is, until love gets in the way. From then on, they must decide whether they can actually make their newly defined relationship work.

What elevates No Strings Attached above the average rom-com is a decent script, the sure hand of veteran director Ivan Reitman and the likeable performances of stars Portman and Kutcher (proving here that he actually can act), as well as an impressive supporting cast.

There are plenty of moments of brash hilarity, some great tunes and a conclusion that, while entirely predictable, still wields some emotional power.

This isn’t an instant classic in the genre, but it’s easily one of the funnier ones to come along in the past couple of years. It helps that Portman is radiantly awesome throughout the film, but, surprisingly, she isn’t the only reason to go see it.
