Edge of Darkness

Edge of Darkness – Dir Martin Campbell, starring Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston

Thomas Craven (Gibson) leads two lives; single father and veteran homicide detective. Protective of his only child, his 24 year old daughter Emma, Craven is distraught when he finds his roles merge into one.

When Emma’s shot dead on his doorstep, Craven initially suspects himself as the intended target. But as heartache and blame lead him into his own private investigation into her death, Craven begins to uncover his daughter’s secret life and an entanglement of corporate and government conspiracies. As he delves deeper into the case however, he comes up against Darius Jedburgh (Winstone) – a government operative who’s been sent to clean up any evidence.

Reworking his original BBC miniseries, Casino Royale director Martin Campbell sets the right pace with just enough tension and plot to give it depth and interest till the very end. A stellar performance from Gibson and plenty of blood-soaked revenge make Edge of Darkness an effective and watchable film.
