Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
A good little World Cup guide, but come on – Spain v Netherlands in the final? Surely you jest.
Mark Clapham

Editor: Our assessment was made on a careful calculation of relative strengths, the world rankings, performance in warm-up games, use of the little-known Excel function CUPCALC, and that sixth sense we all recognise as pure guesswork based on gut feeling. Though having seen Germany cruise past (ahem) Australia, we now fancy them to improve on our 4th place prediction and maybe even make the final ...

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
Many thanks for the information about how to watch the World Cup in your own home. I debated about getting Etisalat’s HD box but decided that I wouldn’t watch enough HD television or videos in the future to justify the cost. I think Al Jazeera’s pricing was a bit steep, and given the problems they apparently had in transmitting the opening game I think I made the right decision. I used your information about plugging a laptop into a TV set, spent AED 28 on an HDMI cable to connect them, and after a bit of hunting around found a selection of streaming internet TV channels that show the World Cup. I watched South Africa v Mexico at home. But something like the World Cup needs other people around, and the best part of your booklet were the listings of where to watch the matches – so far I have seen eight different matches in eight different places, and I haven’t even started on Yas Island yet!

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
As an avid football fan, I was eagerly awaiting your last issue to cover the latest updates on the FIFA World Cup. But to my surprise I found that ADW has provided an additional supplement exclusively covering the World Cup. This was a brilliant idea from ADW’s team and I am glad to note that the booklet is very informative, interesting and a must-have for every football fan. It gives an insight into the groups, teams and exciting facts about the World Cup 2010. I would like to thank the entire team at ADW for giving the football fans of Abu Dhabi an ideal gift.

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,With all the hype at the moment on this year’s FIFA World Cup, I’d like to say how nice it was to see you cover the Nation’s Cup at the Dome on Airport Road in Abu Dhabi in your last issue. This was a well organised tournament and brought a lot of people together and I am sure, rivalry aside, that a lot of new friendships were forged.

Editor: Thank you for your comments. You’re right too; it was a fantastic initiative and a very well organised tournament – the attention to detail was spot on. We luckily got to lift “the World Cup” and the weight of it certainly made you think it was the real thing.  As media partner we were pleased to support this event and are happy to work with all the guys at Dome@Rawdhat in making this happen annually.
