Readers' Writes - 13 May 2010

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
It was a nice surprise yesterday (Thursday) early morning to see the ADW at my front door at 6.20 am before dashing off to work. I try my level best to be one of the many to grab my copy from the stand that sits in the supermarket close to my residence, but sometimes miss out as they are all taken. But this was a good one, at my doorstep. Kinda made my day! Thank you all, good job.
Pearl

Editor: We have changed our distribution patterns recently to ensure that more people have the chance to see a copy, and this has meant more direct-to-door deliveries. Currently around half of our print run is now being distributed like this.

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
I’m a big fan of your publication – you keep us entertained and at the same time keeps us informed about what's happening around us. Keep up the good work. I'm just wondering if you could organise a concert here in Abu Dhabi featuring expats from different countries, something like a battle of the bands or a one-night jam. Many of us used to perform back in our countries and we just miss that feeling here - especially because we cannot just perform in a club unless we have work permit as an entertainer. I'm sure many will be happy if you would consider this thought.
Marte Manaloto

Editor: Nice idea. We’ll see what we can do about this – maybe an open-air gig in a public space? Perhaps when the weather gets a bit cooler?

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
This is just a suggestion for the current public transport in Abu Dhabi. It should not mean that by being public we are deprived with the luxury called “comfort” – it would very much be a comfort to have a separate bus for the females. I am sure that a lot would agree with me. There are already separate taxis for females. Why can’t this also be applied to the bus?

Dear Abu Dhabi Week,
A few months ago you had a list of tailors in Abu Dhabi. I recently wanted to check out one of them, Fridays, which was supposed to be on Hamdan street, opposite Ahalia Hospital. I walked around in the area and asked a few shopkeepers and nobody knows this place. I called Etisalat to get a phone number but there is no business registered under this name. Can you please help me out? I am eager to find a good men's tailor in Abu Dhabi.
Viktor

Editor: That article ran several months ago and the tailor may well have closed since we ran the piece – a lot of those little shops do pop up and then close down quickly. Other men's tailors referenced in the same piece are still trading, though, and most of those that do women's tailoring also do men's. In addition, all the fabric shops can recommend good tailors for both men and women.

Have your say
