Kathakbox

Saturday 26th February: Kathakbox

yourdiary

Kathak is a North Indian art form which encompasses movement, gesture, expression, music and the spoken word in a merging of drama and dance that “encourages us to think outside the box” explained Michel Bechara, director of projects for the British Council in the UAE. Kathakbox is a production from the Sonia Sabri Company that combines poetry, movement and hip hop to express the diverse energy of modern Britain. There are no instruments used in Kathakbox, music is created with the power of the human body and voice by drawing inspiration from both urban trends and global traditions. Dancers create music while musicians create movement and each tells their own story through movement, words and sounds. Sonia Sabri is one of the brightest stars in dance and choreography today. Her productions reflect her appreciation of Indian and British cultures and explores the boundaries of both, creating unique and original works. Kathakbox will be performed at Abu Dhabi Theatre on 26th February. For more information, visit: www.adach.ae

“It is tremendously exciting for us to be given the opportunity to perform to audiences in Abu Dhabi”
– Sonia Sabri
