This year is the year of the Rabbit – said to be a calm one, allowing us all to recover after the ferocious year of the Tiger last year. Though the New Year isn’t until 3rd February, the celebrations are kicking off early across the capital. We have found a selection of food and festivities to help you see in this relaxing new year:
From 1st February to 31st March, Noodle Box at The Yas Hotel are celebrating the Chinese New Year with a special menu. Any guests spending over AED 125 per person will receive a traditional gift and Chinese calendar.

The Shang Palace, Shangri-La has actually been celebrating the coming of the Chinese New Year since 15th January with specialities such as the Yu Sheng salad, the tossing of which is said to bring luck and prosperity. From the 2nd to 5th February, however, Executive Chef Wu will be preparing an extravagant eight-course set menu including delicacies such as braised sea cucumber with bamboo shoot and vegetables. The eight-course set menu is AED 388 per person.

The start of the Chinese Lunar calendar will be seen in with a great show in the lobby of the Shangri-La Qaryat al Beri on 3rd February. The traditional Lion Dance will take place at 11am.

Royal Orchid in the Hilton Abu Dhabi will be holding a special Yam Cha lunch on 3rd and 4th February. This all-you-can-eat menu includes traditional dim sum dishes such as prawn and scallop dumplings and sui mai, as well as favourites like chicken satay and Singapore noodles. Lunch is served from 12.30-3.30pm and is priced at AED 109 per person.
