Purpose-built F1 cop car

Abu Dhabi Police will unveil the world’s fastest police car on the Corniche next Wednesday.

purposebuilt The so-called F999 car is an F1 lookalike with an 800hp engine and a top speed of over 350kph.
But you won’t see the authorities accelerating down the Coast Road in hot pursuit of a speeding SUV in this souped-up smokey; its mission is slightly different – the Police hope to get the message across that speed belongs on the racetrack and not on the streets.

The specially-built car can be seen near the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce building between 5pm and 7pm.
There will also be all manner of festivities going on at the same time, including chances to win a driving experience in the F999 car itself and a day on patrol with the Abu Dhabi Police.

The car has been constructed especially for the Abu Dhabi Police by a company in Budapest, for an undisclosed amount. The engine comes from Ireland, the bodywork is from Germany and the chassis is from Hungary.
“There will be lots of things going on and there’s something for everybody. And it all builds up to the unveiling of the F999,” said Lt Majid Abdul Kareem Al Marzouqi, spokesman for the project.
“We want to further develop a relationship with the community so they know there’s more to the police than just someone you call in an emergency. We want to tap into the public’s passion for Formula 1 and all things cars, and use this great opportunity to get a really important message across – that speeding on the streets is just plain stupid.”
