The Duplays group has paved the way for creating a new array of sporting opportunities in the capital since launching in Abu Dhabi over two months ago, providing the infrastructure for individuals and groups to participate in sports.
The basketball leagues are its latest initiative, and Duplays hopes they will have the same success as Dubai launch last year, which now sees 14 men’s teams playing over two nights a week.
The Abu Dhabi league will meet every Monday from 8-11pm at the Pearl School, Corniche, downtown Abu Dhabi for an eight week period. Both teams and individuals will be able to sign up; the league will be open to all levels of players and organisers stress that individuals do not need to already have a team to join the league – sign up as individual and you’ll be placed on a team that needs players. Registration costs AED 320 per individual or AED 2,300 for a team.
The hope is that around eight teams will be created, enough to provide some decent league competition.
Meanwhile a women’s league will be launched in August if there is enough interest. Anyone can register on the website, which also has details about the men’s league. More information: tinyurl. com/mh299r.
Duplays (Do U Play Sports) already runs recreational leagues for mixed beach volleyball, mixed dodgeball, men’s soccer, women’s netball and mixed touch rugby.
