Cultural conversation

With the news that Abu Dhabi Festival will once again be “expanding the boundaries of cultural excellence in the UAE in 2012” with its Connecting Cultures programme (kicking off this week), we started thinking about all the wonderful cultural experiences we’ve been treated to recently.

Last week we were out on the town sampling Mexican delicacies on Yas Island with English friends, Belgian beverages and mussels in Al Bateen with mates from Syria and Sweden and Venetian delights on the Corniche with our BFF from the Netherlands. That’s before we drove out into the Liwa dunes for some well deserved rest and relaxation and some delicious Emirati cuisine – complete with camel milk and the juiciest dates we’ve ever tasted.

Back at work we were lucky enough to head out again to Liwa for a day with some of the Emirate’s friendliest farmers, catch up with a group of NYU Abu Dhabi students about to stage a production of the mythical Vedic poem The Ramayana, leap all over the Corniche with a group of energetic Parkour enthusiasts and catch up with the lady behind the latest cultural hub of the city, the new National Library of the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority.

This weekend we’re off to sample Asian, Italian, Brazilian and Lebanese cuisine with our Austrian friends.

How lucky we are to live in such a multi-cultural melting pot? We’re connecting cultures every day!

Have your say
