What a great job!

This week we’d like to dedicate this column to all the unsung heroes of Abu Dhabi; those people who make events like the Formula One and Yas Arena concerts run so smoothly.

Yes, the organisers (FLASH Entertainment and the fabulous team at ADMM) deserve the lion’s share of the credit for putting on these incredible events, but what about all the guys that keep them ticking over?

First up are the amazingly patient rubbish collectors at the Yas Arena. Throughout every concert we’ve ever attended they dutifully root around the feet of revelers, picking up their rubbish without even being noticed. Not once, but twice we’ve seen people unknowingly (we hope) tip drinks on their heads and we’ve stomped all over their feet on more than one occasion (sorry). Despite this ill treatment, we’ve never once heard them complain and we’ve usually managed to get a smile out of them by busting an amazing dance move or two – so hats off to the rubbish collectors!

Next, we’d like to thank the volunteer marshalls at Yas Marina Circuit. While wandering around the Oasis areas and paddock with a vacant expression on our face, we were sent off in the right direction time and time again by these happy, smiling individuals, despite the heat and the ear-splitting noise from the cars on the track. Hurrah for the F1 volunteers!

Finally, we’d like to thank the hordes of Abu Dhabi taxi drivers who were always on hand around Yas Island to ferry us from point A to point B – even when we were a little confused as to where that was!

Have your say
