With the announcement that registration is now open for the Abu Dhabi Triathlon – 3rd March 2012 – here at Turret Towers we’ve been pondering our physical state.
After training for the past eight months under the watchful eye of the team at Haddins, we can safely say that our levels of fitness have improved tenfold. Great news for sure, but even we’re not confident we have enough stamina to keep up with the rest of Abu Dhabi!
I mean, who has the energy to complete a 3km swim, a 200km cycle and a 20km run? That’s just bonkers! We’ll be leaving the Long course to the professionals (and fitness nuts), and will be settling for the much more do-able 750m swim, 50km bike ride and 5km run Sprint course. This can also be done as a relay so anyone can have a go really. Why not get your friends together and sign up?
Long before we get into the serious amount of training we’re going to need to do for the Sprint, this week – Friday 21st – sees the first big run of the season kick off at Zayed Sports City with a 10-kilometre tour of this vast sports complex. The run starts at 7am, but having been out running a few mornings already this week, we’re hoping the fog lifts for Friday’s event otherwise we’ll all be feeling the humidity.
Roll on November – Friday 18th – and it’s already time for the Abu Dhabi Striders half marathon and 10k on Yas Island and the ADNIC Yas Run – 26th November. That’s before another 10k at ZSC and Tri-Yas in January 2012.
Our legs are already aching at the thought, but we’re getting fired up for the next few months of training!
