Make some noise

There’s never a quiet moment here in the Abu Dhabi Week office, and we like to think that we’re echoing the heartbeat of the capital. With a continuous stream of live entertainment planned throughout most of the calendar year, there’s certainly never a quiet – or dull – moment in this town.

Take this weekend for example. While Gourmet Abu Dhabi 2011 winds up another year with its annual closing gala dinner tonight (Thursday 17th), star DJ Tiesto will be pumping up the volume with his long-awaited appearance over on Yas Island. We’ll be there making some noise with our lucky Tiesto ticket winners.

Meanwhile the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) is opening the doors on another world-class event as Akram Kahn brings us the Vertical Road on 18th February. Not bad going for just one weekend.

Planning our diaries a little further ahead, we’re getting excited about the upcoming Abu Dhabi Festival 2011. This year’s line-up includes a real cross-cultural mix of theatre, opera, dance and jazz – with many events taking place in an innovative temporary venue, the Zaha Hadid Pavillion.

While the main programme may not kick off until 19th March, tickets are already selling fast. With the likes of the Shakespeare Globe presenting Macbeth on 21st March, to Abu Dhabi’s schools taking part for a daytime concert with the Young Artist’s Day on 26th March, we can see why.

Can’t wait and still got some space in your diary to fill? Then check out our Diary page this week. We can guarantee we’ll be back making just as much noise about the capital in next week’s issue.
