Goodbye to the noughties

Well, we’ve made it to the last issue of 2010 after what seems to have been the busiest year ever.

goodbyeto

In the past month alone we’ve talked basketball and fashion design with Hakeem Olajuwon, had world-renowned graffiti artist Inkie design our front cover, we celebrated National Day with 32,000 people at Abu Dhabi Corniche, we danced the night away at Creamfields, went shopping with Antony Worrall Thompson before his cooking show on Yas Island, we swung a few shots with Golf Pro Jeremy Dale at Yas Links and we rocked our socks off at Guns N’ Roses. And that’s not all. We also took you on a tour of the Al Dhafra Camel Festival, gave you a sneak preview of the first Korean Film Series at Abu Dhabi Theatre and sat down with the filmmaker behind the first Emirati film to be shot outside the UAE (Malal by Nayla Al Khaja).

We’re exhausted, but we still found the energy to put together this week’s cracking Christmas issue for you.

We’ll be taking a break over the holiday season, so we had to make sure you had enough information to keep you going for the next two weeks …

To start with, we have listings for Christmas and New Year fun and games, so you don’t miss out on the party of the year. We’ve also caught up with the director of the World Peace Orchestra ahead of their performance on 4th January and asked White House Advisory Council member Dalia Mogahed how she views Muslim and expatriate relations in Abu Dhabi.

And that’s just upfront!

We’ve also had a chat with Hoda Kanoo, founder of the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation, tried and tested our way round Abu Dhabi’s best restaurants, beaches and fitness centres in our lifestyle section, and even had time to squeeze in a trip to Seoul (and a mega-giveaway).

It’s been a crazy and exciting year, and we couldn’t have done it without you, so thank you for sending us all your suggestions, Around the World pictures and for joining us on our voyage of discovery in Abu Dhabi.

Whether you’ve been reading our magazine in print or online, or following our news and views on Twitter (we’re up to 1,041 followers now), we like to think we’ve given you some insight into Abu Dhabi and its rapidly expanding community.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of our readers! See you in 2011.
