Don’t stop in December

Well, after a long and adrenalin-fuelled build up to the Formula 1, we’re all in recovery!

Fast cars, celebrities galore, show-stopping musical performances, star-studded parties, and all crammed in to three days (and very long nights).

It’s a good job we’ve all had some time off this week for Eid al-Adha as the excitement starts to build again for the first in a series of Yas Island Show Weekends, which kick off tonight with the Jonas Brothers live on stage at Yas Arena.

If teen heartthrobs aren’t your thing, then the muscles and moves on display at the Mighty 4 show this Friday and Saturday (at Yas Island’s Gateway Park) will get your pulse racing. Teams of the region’s best breakdancers will be battling out for an AED 15,000 prize, so the competition should be fierce.

The fun doesn’t stop there though, with a cultural festival coming to town in the form of the 4th International Date Palm Festival at ADNEC (22nd-27th Nov). Learn traditional recipes, take part in a photo competition and let the kids run riot with plenty of activities for all the family.

Back on Yas Island, Nelly Furtado will be rocking the crowds next weekend, swiftly followed by a star-studded DJ line up for this year’s Creamfields (9th Dec) – including David Guetta, Sasha, Above and Beyond, Sander Van Doorn, Gareth Emery and James Zabiella.

Personally we’re more excited about Guns N’ Roses, who are playing on 16th December. Even though the band will be performing minus Slash, we’ve fished out our red bandana in preparation already!

So, with chance of winding down in the weeks before the New Year, you may as well get your spray paints and ribbons ready to decorate your car for National Day 2nd December (see our competition, page 10), head down to the NBA Jam Fest (2nd-4th Dec), buy a few tickets for the FIFA Club World Cup (starting 8th Dec), cheer your favourite team on in the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge (10-15th Dec), or dust off your tennis rackets in preparation for the Mubadala World Tennis Championship (starting 31st Dec).

Whatever your plans are for the next month, you can certainly say that Abu Dhabi has left you spoilt for choice.
