City schools set to kick out at poverty

The capital’s children will be kicking for a cause when participating in an inter-school football competition to benefit charity organisations this weekend.

To be hosted on Saturday 7th December, the British International School Abu Dhabi (BISAD) will again play host to the annual Primary Abu Dhabi International School Sports Association football tournament. Open to U-9 and U-11 students, the tournament will feature 7-a-side games for 32 teams from 13 schools in the emirate.

The public is encouraged to attend the event as the competition will also feature a fun fayre from 9am to 1pm. The family-friendly entertainment and activities include a children’s carnival, barbeque, and vendor stalls. Proceeds from these activities will be donated to the Choice to Change Foundation, which runs schools for impoverished slum children in Bangladesh, and also to support a student-led expedition to Tanzania, which is to take place in February of next year, as part of the Nord Anglia Education’s global challenge.

“We are really excited to be hosting this event for the second year running. It was a huge success last year with some very competitive football played across both age groups. It is also a really fun day out for families as there are lots of other things going on like a children’s carnival and vendor stalls,” adds Richard Davies, BISAD marketing and admissions manager.
