Girl power at Corporate Games

In line with the ‘participation for all’ ethos applied to their sister events worldwide, Abu Dhabi Corporate Games 2012 organisers have revealed that there will be a distinct women-only event programme at this November’s inaugural event

“Sensitive to local and regional culture, and with a wish to encourage amateur female athletes to take part in ‘The Games’, we have arranged for certain sports to have a parallel women-only event schedule for those women or girls who may wish to compete, yet might feel due to cultural norms they can only do so in a female-only environment,” explained CEO of Abu Dhabi Corporate Games 2012, Fanny Marcout.

The event’s organisers however are keen to highlight that the regular event programme is open to both male and female participants and that the women-only events have been scheduled as an additional schedule to the regular programme.

The women-only event schedule will not include all 17 sports of the main schedule, but will focus on the three most popular sports participated in by Emirati women: basketball, football and volleyball.

The Abu Dhabi Corporate Games 2012 is patronised by HH Sheikh Nahayan Mubarak Al Nahayan, UAE minister for higher education, and supported by Sports Patron, Subait Khater, the UAE’s national football team captain, as well as the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and will run from 21st to 24th November 2012 at venues across Abu Dhabi including Zayed Sports City (main venue), Saadiyat Beach Golf Club and Al Forsan International Sports Resort.
