Sarah Al Mazrouei is a five-year-old girl who attends the American International School, Abu Dhabi (AISA). Sarah has been growing her hair since she was two years old and recently had it cut short with the intention to donate it to Locks of Love
This is an organisation that makes wigs for children who have suffered hair loss through illness or stress.
After making sure her hair was the required ten inches long, she had it cut and is delighted and proud that she will be helping others in need.
She has shared her experience with her classmates showing them photographs of the process and the very special ponytail of hair. The ponytail will be sent to the USA where it will find a new owner and Sarah now plans to grow her hair again and help another child in the future.
As her teacher, I am incredibly proud of Sarah’s actions at such a young age and her compassion for other children who are experiencing difficult times in their lives. Her actions have been celebrated recently at the school when she received a special certificate from Mr Gareth Jones, the director of AISA, for clearly demonstrating the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme Learner Profile trait – caring.
