Do the Electric Slide

French Alliance presents Electric-Oud concert with Smadj “SOS Tour”

dothe

The French Alliance Abu Dhabi is bringing the sounds of jazz, oriental maqams and electronic rhythms to the capital.

Critically acclaimed Parisian musician Jean-Pierre Smadja’s (Smadj’s) album Equilibriste ranked fourth in the European World Music Charts in 2000 and in 2002, while his album with fellow musician Mehdi Haddab, DuOuD, was the recipient of the prestigious BBC World Music Awards.

Smadj, who studied jazz in Paris and plays the electric guitar, was 30 years old when he picked up the oud. Smadj mixes sounds from Oriental, Latin, Turkish and North African music to create truly memorable tunes. His fusion of jazz and contemporary electronic music features the guitar, oud and laptop.

Accompanying Smadj’s notes will be Orhan Osman, playing the bouzouki and other string instruments, and Eric Gaulthier playing the soprano sax.

The concert will take place at the Abu Dhabi Theatre on 16th February at 9pm. Tickets are AED 175 for non-members and AED 150 for members. Tickets are on sale at the French Alliance and www.boxofficeme.com. For more information visit: www.af-aboudabi.net.
