As Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week nears, the capital’s renewable energy company is calling on the public to help tackle climate change.

Masdar announced the launch of its fourth annual Engage blogging contest where it seeks ideas from contestants that will help businesses and governments tackle sustainability issues.

The international contest precedes the Middle East’s largest gathering on sustainability, which will this year be held under the theme ‘The Transition to a Sustainable Economy by 2030’.

Last year’s contest received over 100 entries from 35 countries. This year, contestants are asked to address what policies they believe governments should adopt to encourage public-private partnerships and allow the private sector to develop goods and services to help transition to a sustainable economy.

Dr Nawal Al-Hosany, Masdar’s director of sustainability, said: “In light of the landmark agreement reached at the COP21 talks in Paris, and the ongoing worldwide discussion on climate change, we’d like to give even more people the opportunity to have their voice heard. The world needs more ideas on how to limit climate change this century to within 2°C, and we are excited to announce our fourth annual blogging contest that will encourage the free exchange of new and innovative ideas.

“This is a wonderful opportunity, whether the contestant is a university student or a seasoned professional,” Dr Nawal added.

A judging panel will screen submissions based on quality, the number of votes it receives on the Masdar website and the post’s social media support.

The writer of the winning entry will be Masdar’s guest VIP blogger during Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week.

To have your voice heard, write a post on your own blog with a link to Masdar’s Engage page – masdar.ae/en/initiatives/blog-contest – or submit your post to press@masdar.ae before 4th January.
