Abu Dhabi Week sat down with top Indian music producer and DJ, NYK, ahead of his Abu Dhabi performance. The award-winning artist – more formally known as Nikhil Sahni – will be bringing his eclectic Bollywood and electronic dance music to Desi Heat on 13th November.

You’ve performed across the world in over 45 cities. What has been your most notable show?

One of my most memorable performances recently was The Electronyk Show. This is an audio-visual project that I’ve been passionately pursuing for the last year and it was at BITS Pilani in Goa where I premiered it, so that’s really special to me. The crowd’s electrifying energy, enthusiasm and appreciation shown was so encouraging for me as an artist.

Who are your musical inspirations?

I derive my inspiration from every corner of the world. Everything inspires me from the world’s finest DJs to upcoming talented artists, classical music pieces to cutting-edge dance tracks.

What do you think of the music being produced today?

It is very cutting edge with lots of genres to choose from but, at the same time, the resources to create music electronically are so readily available today that it’s led to the creation of a lot of music that is just noise and lacks soul. There is also the concept of Ghost Producers; a lot of DJs aren’t making music themselves and are outsourcing by hiring producers to get music and remixes done for them. Everybody wants to be a star, but very few remain true to the artistic side of making music.

You’ve performed in Abu Dhabi before. What are you looking forward to about your return to the capital?

Last time I performed a DJ set at Etoiles in Emirates Palace but this time I’ll be showcasing The Electronyk Show (Beta Version). I am really excited and hope people will like it.

What can we expect from you in the future?

Currently The Electronyk Show is in its beta phase – I’ve been testing out the audio-visual elements for over a year now. Fans can expect a full version in 2015 that focuses on delivering an innovative and sense-engaging atmosphere.

Fans can also expect my original album in 2015. The first single from the album called ‘Living Kings’ will be released this December. I’ve been remixing for the last 15 years and now want to devote more time to the creation of original music and honing my skills as a musician and a music producer.

Desi Heat will be held at Abu Dhabi City Golf Club on 13th November. Tickets are on sale for AED 100 at www.ticketmaster.ae
