Dracula Untold (PG15) – Starring Luke Evans, Dominic Cooper and Charles Dance, directed by Gary Shore Anand

Bram Stoker surely never thought that his best-known novel would have had such a lasting effect; spin-offs for Van Helsing and the likes of Tom Cruise and Gary Oldman sinking their teeth into the role of Count Dracula, all adding to the vast backlog of the classic tale’s remakes. We can now include Dracula Untold on that list, hoping that this really is the final nail in the remake coffin.

Vlad Tepes (Evans) is in fear of losing his stable kingdom of Transylvania and beloved family to the ambitions and ever-growing army of a rival king. And with every first-born son of each family being demanded to join the army in question, Vlad seeks help from powers too dark to imagine.

Signing a deal with the Master Vampire (Dance), Vlad has protected the ones he loves the most; but now he must battle the dangerous supernatural forces bestowed on him.

Dracula Untold has some redeeming features including stunning visuals and digital sound that will have you jumping out of your seat. But the film also offers a predictable storyline, eye-wincing one-liners and the depressing thought of another drawn-out Dracula movie.

Dracula Untold flies into cinemas on Thursday 9th October.
