Fury (15+) – Starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and Logan Lerman, directed by David Ayer

In April 1945, the Allies are making their final push in Europe. Nazi Germany is in disarray and desperately clutching on to its empire with a last-ditch defence. This film captures the last months of violence as World War II moves to its conclusion.

We follow the five-man crew of a Sherman tank as they fight for survival under hardened army sergeant Don ‘Wardaddy’ Collier (Pitt) with rookie Norman Ellison (Lerman) newly arrived to replace the tank’s dead gunner.

This World War II drama doesn’t flinch from capturing the destruction and horrors of war. From morally ambiguous characters that you can’t quite cheer for to appalling violence, this snapshot provides audience goers with a glimpse of everything that happens on the battlefield – the good, the bad and the ugly.

The slow, tension-building scenes of tank warfare are punctuated by moments of intense violence. Add to that the tight, claustrophobic interiors and you’ve got yourself an unflinching war drama that is both dark and sombre. Pitt’s grizzled performance suits the mood, and the supporting cast doesn’t disappoint.

Fury hits the big screen on Thursday 23rd October.
