Get ready for a European food festival right in the heart of the city
Abu Dhabi is set to host the first Toast Europe – an event that celebrates European culture, food and drink – on Friday 27th February at Abu Dhabi City Golf Club.
Over 20 vendors have confirmed they’ll be taking part and over 1,000 visitors are expected to attend.
So with the smash of a plate, a shake of our maracas and a click of our clogs, we take a look around Toast Europe to give you an insight of what’s to come.
Food glorious food
Toast Europe is going to please many tummies. While the total number of food outlets is still being finalised, we’ve picked four to get you salivating ahead of the event.
Irish pub McGettigan’s will be serving up a few of its most popular dishes such as Irish stew, steak and pies to give those not familiar with the cuisine a well-rounded introduction.
Sail over the Irish Sea to the UK and visit Simply Fish & Chips, a chippy in Khalidiya. Cod and chips, steak and kidney pie and even a Corniche pasty will transport your tastebuds to coastal England. We hear the curry sauce is worth a try, too.
Springbok Butchery, an Australian and South African owned butchers, will also be at the event. Yes, we know it’s not from Europe, but once you’ve tasted its mini burgers and steaks you won’t care. The butchery will also be serving up German sausages and Swedish meatballs.
That’s entertainment
Once you’ve had your fill of tasty treats, there are plenty of things you can do to burn them off.
Little ones can bolt around the kids zone, which has a crafts station for budding Botticellis and a mechanical bull they can ride. The zone will also have 30 beanbags they can slob out on while they gobble buckets of popcorn from a popcorn machine. If they’re still bursting with energy, they can try out the pit stop fun park and the wacky moo park, two large bouncy castles available throughout the day.
Children’s sports games have also been organised including football, rugby and the Irish game of hurling, which is similar to hockey and lacrosse. They can also try camogie, another Irish game that resembles hurling that is usually played by women.
With your rugrats off exploring, you’ll be able to listen to Daisy from Radio 2, who will be on the decks throughout the day. Keep an ear out, as one visitor will have the chance to win two Etihad Airways economy tickets to any destination on its routes. Music from two live bands and performances from the Bailey-Murray Irish Dance Academy will take place throughout the day.
Independent clothing, décor and jewellery stalls will also feature alongside Etihad Cargo and Yas Cycles.
