Discover Abu Dhabi through the eyes of experienced seamen and women in a free painting exhibition

In an era where digital photography enables us to create thousands of memories in seconds, it’s reassuring to discover a group of painters who are still taking the time to travel the world to immortalise people and places using only brushes and scalpels.

A collection of artworks by the Official Painters of the French Navy is currently on display in the restaurant area of Dusit Thani Abu Dhabi on Muroor Road.

The institution was created in 1830 by the French king Louis Philippe, and today its members’ still have a duty to participate in naval operations and discovery missions to record the memory of people, wildlife, flora and landscapes in paintings, drawings and prints.

Earlier this year, 11 of these artists spent 12 days in the UAE, including three nights at the local art centre Art Hub Liwa, on the edge of the desert.

The result is Infinities: From the Sea to the Desert, a collection of paintings and sculptures representing their impression of the country.

Organised by Art Hub in collaboration with the French Navy, the exhibition will be on until 27th February, so hurry up so you don’t miss out. It is open 24/7 as it’s in a public area of the hotel.

All artworks are for sale, starting from AED 4,000.
