Wish You Were Here (R)

wishyouwerehereStarring Felicity Price, Joel Edgerton and Teresa Palmer and directed by Kieran Darcy-Smith

With an enticing invite to vacate to South-East Asia, this dream getaway for four quickly changes into a paradise – where someone gets lost.

Alice Flannery (Price) and Dave Flannery (Edgerton) decide to take up the offer from Steph McKinney (Palmer) to join her and a new-found love on a trip to Cambodia. For Dave and Alice the thought of no kids and no phones for a week sounds like heaven. The foursome head off to explore the country and themselves; the Flannerys begin to consider that this Asian fantasy could well be the lifestyle their young family needs.

After returning home, the dynamic of the group has changed. They returned as three, not four. McKinney’s boyfriend is gone. He’s gone missing. Nine days unaccounted for, bank accounts untouched and with the minimal evidence there is nothing to go on. But slowly and expectantly, the story begins to unfold with the finger pointing heavily at Dave.

Whispered conversations, painful flashbacks and mysterious men in cars, this slow paced yet gripping story manages to keep your eyes clamped on the big screen throughout.

A powerful movie, this drama is going to make you work! Wish You Were Here hits the screens on Thursday 11th July.
